The short film is a genre that has been a part of the media scene ever since. In comparison the feature film is much more popular, especially through its presence in cinema and television. Nevertheless the short film has become a popular niche, free from commercial requirements, with an experimental touch of different topics and techniques. Developments in recent years show that short films and their educational and impact potential are increasingly attracting attention within the media scene - we want to pay attention to this process and offer this special art form of animated short film a platform in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The Trickfilm Festival Düsseldorf represents contemporary short films in the field of animation and motion design. It shows international artists who express themselves in various ways with animations and therefore achieve the most diverse results. A selection of short films from the years 2019 and 2020 will be presented and the films will be shown at different locations in the city center of Düsseldorf. The films will be projected onto screens and on outer walls of public places, free of charge and accessible to everyone. We want to display the festival external, without closed rooms and the need of internet and transform the urban landscape to an outdoor cinema for one night. We will prepare a festival plan, on which all the locations will be indicated.

The festival is part of the Imagination Project and is organisied by Kilian van de Water. The film festival will be realized together with the artist collective ROOOOOM e.V. and with the support of Flora and Fauna, Kunst und Kollegen as well as Wacom.
